About Me
Hi everybody! Will Lyle, bassist here- welcome to my Shopify store!
I made some digital products for musicians to help their understanding and practice of Jazz and Latin music. I have been a working professional musician for over 15 years, graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music (2016) and Master's of Music from Manhattan School of Music (2022). I have toured and played major jazz festivals all around the world and with GRAMMY-award winning artists (even recording at the YouTube Space) and wanted to design some tools for aspiring players and pros alike to save time and sharpen their skills faster.

Reviews From Our Customers
from 28 reviewsIt’s excellent. Need some time to dive into it.

Very interesting and useful.
After two days, I can’t have a full opinion but I like the approach and the content.
Let’s practice !

Such a great pack! It's amazing for sight-reading, great for practicing comping, soloing and doing bass-lines to these great tunes. And such intricate and awesome contrafacts here. 10/10 recommend!

I’m still relatively new to jazz (been studying it for about four years but have been playing guitar for more than 20 years). As a guitar player, my jazz listening is focused on guitar (well and Charlie Parker because it all leads to him anyway), so my vocabulary isn’t complete. The annotated version of Will’s etudes is amazing because now I have context to what he’s referencing and it’s not just arpeggios and incomplete scales. Amazing and a steal for what he’s charging.

As an amateur bass player I must say, this is for me next level practicing! It deals with all the aspects of getting a better bassist. It improves my reading skills, understanding the chord progressions and what (possible) notes to play over. I have committed myself to master these 10 songs within 6 months (I practice every day for 1-1,5 h per day).
Great to have 10 well known Jazz songs in my library. The scores look neat and clear; together with the audio samples this is a nice and complete set to practice with. Thanks!

very helpful overview and introduction

OK, Will is a real one. I wasn't thrilled with this at first, and—I'm guessing—he heard me and took time to revise. He's updated this product to add a four-pager that provides more of an overview of what to do with these 50-plus tunes, and it helps much more as a guide.

Very useful knowledge and exclusive insight into jazz language. A must for every jazz lover

I have work with other collections of standards before but no one gets closer to this one. Not only because it is huge but also because you are given the priority (and other details such as iconic bass lines, etc) to study each song in the appropriate order based in the real experience of a NYC 1st class musician.

This is wonderful all around. Incredibly helpful for me and my students. I highly recommend!

All the songs shared in these guides are truly relevant for anyone looking to learn song and be able to be part of an active jazz scene. All the information is really well organized and that also gives you the chance to continue expanding your jazz repertoire/lenguage.
Great stuff!!!

This is an amazing resource, clearly lays out the common tunes as well as the must know bass lines. Has been extremely useful for my development as a jazz bass player

Extremely comprehensive list of 700 tunes to learn in order to be a working bassist in every jazz scene around the world. Different scenes/cities often have different sets of tunes people like to call, but this list is distilled down to the ones that you can find pretty much everywhere. Knowing which tunes have an important bassline to learn helps a lot too. Working through this list has allowed me to build an extensive repertoire and play a lot more gigs - highly recommend. $12 is a bargain!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your website all about?
My website is aimed at improving the jazz skills and knowledge for everyone from the beginning student player, to a “weekend warrior”, to even a seasoned professional musician. I provide lists of repertoire that frequently get “called”, or suggested to play, at NYC jazz jam sessions, known as the most competitive in the world. I also have lists of important records to know and “jazz language” - things that get quoted all the time during people’s improvisation, shout choruses to various material, and more. I also help bassists with their harmonic choices (with my various walking bass e-books), groove ability (with my Latin bass e-book), and online bass course with over 170 videos and 20 PDFs.
Why should I trust such a 30 year old musician?
I was fortunate to attend Berklee College of Music and Manhattan School of Music, and have studied and played with some of the most recorded musicians in history, around the world. My teachers as well as many past employers/bandleaders played with Miles Davis, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Ahmad Jamal, Duke Ellington, and more. I did not start my main instrument, the upright bass, until age 19, but since have travelled the world and played extensively. Because I started this quite late in life (though I have been playing music from an early age), I am well aware of HOW to teach the required steps to reach your musical goals. Much of my success was due to amazing mentorship I had, but I also had to learn many of the “ropes” myself. Now, I want to share my knowledge with players all over the world.
Do you offer lessons?
I will SOON be starting an online community of musicians through Skool, and also offer individual lessons. Please DM me on Instagram or email me at wlylebass@gmail.com to find out more.
